Fire Safety

Did you know?

  • You’re four times more likely to die in a fire if you don’t have a smoke alarm that works
  • 21 people die each year because the battery in their smoke alarm was flat or missing at the time of the fire
  • Around half of home fires are caused by cooking accidents
  • Three fires a day are started by candles
  • Every five days someone dies from a fire caused by a cigarette
  • Faulty electrics (appliances, wiring and overloaded sockets) cause around 6,000 fires in the home across the country every year.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue service (GMFRS) offer free Home Fire Safety Assessments.

During the visit they will provide fire safety advice and equipment depending on risk. They will talk to you about your health, home environment and your daily activities in order to understand your fire risk and provide the best advice for you.

GMFRS also offer Home Fire Safety Assessment training for partner agencies.
