Safeguarding topics

Professional curiosity

Professional Curiosity is instrumental in being able to safeguard adults effectively. It means enquiring deeper, not taking things at face value and having courageous conversations, so we can understand a situation in more depth. When we enquire deeper it also allows us to think about a person’s previous history and the root cause of behaviour. Professional Curiosity allows us to consider the following:

  • History/past trauma
  • Capacity
  • Previous involvement with services
  • Relationships
  • Wider public interest
  • Risks
  • Environment
  • Presentation
  • Culture and beliefs
  • Defensible decision making
  • Trauma informed approach
  • Our own assumptions and bias.
